The Heart of Our Mission
Serve & Lift
The Serve&Lift Center is more than our home in Kansas City. It reflects our mission to walk alongside our neighbors with hope, dignity, and care.
Why we serve and lift
Catholicism calls us to walk alongside our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and respect. That calling inspires the work we do across our community.
The phrase, "Serve & Lift" draws inspiration from many voices of faith. At a Catholic Charities gathering in 1987, St. John Paul II reminded us that "Service to those in need must take direct action to relieve their anxieties and their burdens, and at the same time, lead them to the dignity of self-reliance."
We believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity and to have the support they need to thrive. Our role is not to rescue others, but to stand beside our neighbors, offering encouragement, guidance, and practical support along the way. Many faith traditions express this same truth. For one, President Monroe of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints said, “We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children."
To be the hands and feet of Christ is a noble goal for every Christian. For us, it's our mandate: to meet people where they are, to walk alongside them with care, and to help create hope for what comes next.
