It might seem daunting to live up to Mother Teresa’s example of selfless volunteerism, but don’t let that stop you from jumping on the bandwagon!
Recently, the volunteer corps at Catholic Charities has been busy providing emergency food distributions at the pantry, at parishes and with the new pantry van at various community locations.
In May, Catholic Charities partnered with Nativity of Mary parishioners to hold a drive-through food distribution and serve more than 200 families with fresh produce, hygiene items and Pack and Play beds to provide a safe sleep environment for infants.
In June and July, volunteers worked daily at the pantry to stock our shelves, prepare boxes of food for deliveries, and assist people who came to the pantry in need. Staff and Volunteers were at the Grandview Read and Feed event, and the pantry van made trips to employment fairs, senior living apartments and schools in the area, loaded with food and services for all who stopped by. Finally, at the end of July, the van and volunteers helped St. Bernadette’s Parish with a community food distribution that included school supplies.
There are many ways to assist the efforts of helping those in need. As a volunteer, you really are the beating heart of the new pantry.
