Be A Star Thrower: DONATE

I was so lucky the day I read this random flyer about Catholic Charities and housing. I really didn’t think they could help me…I am not Catholic. Oh sure, I believe in God, but I haven’t been to a church since I was little and my grandma would take me. But, I thought, maybe, just maybe, they could tell me where to go.

I really want to take care of my own bills and have a job and feed my kids, but I can’t do any of that right now, and we are tired, cold and hungry.

So, I walked in…and met Heather.

She was so kind, understanding and she listened to me. Wow, that was such a relief, and I had no idea I needed that. She helped me find some quick temporary housing for a couple days and told me to come back while she worked on something for a little longer. So, to a hotel we went, with a Catholic Charities voucher to pay for it and, she gave me some food for the weekend. I came back on Monday and we figured out better housing for a little while. Then, Heather and I worked on a plan.

I really like plans and lists. I like to check things off the list. I told her that. It just seems like you accomplish something when you can look back at all those items checked off.

One of the items was food for Thanksgiving. It has been years since I made a special dinner for my kids. Heather gave me the date of a food distribution. In a parking lot, a drive through was set up for people to get a couple bags of groceries for Thanksgiving.

Today, is thanksgiving, for America and for me. Thank you, Heather, for this special dinner with my kids.

OK, what is next on the list?
