Father Bob Stone, Pastor of Nativity of Mary
Catholic Charities Emergency Assistance Fund: Donate to Larry’s Legacy
My name is Father Bob, and I was Larry’s priest. I met Larry the first time he visited Nativity for Sunday Mass. I was impressed that he was able to navigate the bus system and get to our parish. I am not confident I could have done that, and I don’t rely on a motorized wheelchair like he did!
Larry was personable and always paused for a brief conversation with me and other parishioners before going into church. He connected easily with people, and soon had a “regular spot” in the pew with people who considered him a friend.
I’ll never forget the day he came in with a serious look on his face. He pulled a letter out of his pocket to share with me and I was alarmed to see that it was an eviction notice. I was even more alarmed to see that the eviction date was only two weeks away. I just couldn’t accept the prospect of this gentleman – who was my parishioner – winding up on the street.
