Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, Isaiah prophesied that Christ’s coming would be like a light shining in the darkness, a light that would defeat the chaos of sin with the peace of God’s reign.
As we ready ourselves for the Advent season and Christmas it often feels like we speed up. Family and friend activities, parties, and shopping for the perfect Christmas gifts seem to fill every moment. We unintentionally allow the commotion to run rampant and the deafening sounds of modern life envelope us. Let’s all work to make this holiday season more grace filled. Let’s do more low-tech things this Christmas season like hugging our friends and family, or helping feed those most in need, or putting a toyand coat under the tree for a family who cannot. Share the love of the one true light and consider making a new family tradition to help those in need by doing the Reverse Advent calendar food drive or in addition to the white elephant gift everyone bring canned food to donate. Another option is the Christmas Shining Star program. Choose a child in need and shop for clothes, toys or send a donation to support the many families in our community. Let the light of Jesus shine through you. May you and yours feel the calming grace of Christ’s light and thank you for supporting Catholic Charitiesmission this Christmas season.
