Tax Credits

Families may choose their own food from available nutritious selections, and meet their own taste preferences, cultural dishes, and better manage chronic medical conditions.

Process for getting tax credits:  Food Pantry

  1. Fill out and sign MO Form FPT. (If married, spouse’s SS# and signature must also be included)
  2. Download and fill out the attached application, sign and send to Catholic Charities c/o Deanna Ricke
    8001 Longview Road, KCMO 64134
    Or email DRicke@CCharities.com
  3. Catholic Charities will sign and mail back to you.
  4. Submit the signed forms with your tax information when you file (must be submitted before April 15th.)
  5. Pay the full amount of state taxes you owe when you file.  You will receive your credit/refund in July.

    Note:

    • You can get a tax credit even if you’ve had your state tax automatically withheld from your paychecks.
    • Your tax credit cannot exceed the amount of taxes you owe.
    • Minimum donation is $1,000.
    • Maximum donation for an individual or business is $5,000 ($2,500 tax credit)
    • Maximum donation for married couple filing jointly is $10,000 ($5,000 tax credit)
    • After April 15th, the state adds up the amount of tax credits that are being applied for across the entire state.
      1. The total amount the state has allotted for food pantry tax credits is $1.75 million.
      2. If the total number of claims filed exceed $1.75 million, all claims will be apportioned equally among those filing a valid claim.
      3. Generally, the number of credits filed exceeds $1.75 million by 10 -15%, so you should expect to receive about 85% of the credit you’re eligible for.
      4. For example, if you donate $5,000, you would be eligible for a $2,500 tax credit, which could be reduced by 15%, to $2,125.
