Newsletter March, 2021 Exciting Changes at Catholic Charities

Hello, friend of Catholic Charities!

My thoughts and prayers are with you as we welcome in spring and mark the anniversary of what has been a difficult year.

Despite the difficulty, there has been great hope and exciting advances in our services and resources. Most recently, we saw our most successful Celebration of Hope gala in the history of Catholic Charities, raising over $1 million.  These funds will go directly to providing families with rent, utility, and food assistance.

We also recently opened our Kansas City food panty and announced the name inspired by our tagline, “To Serve & To Lift.”  The “Lift Up – Kansas City” location welcomed its first clients on March 15 at our temporary site in St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

What is most unique and special about these food pantries lies in that it is open to anyone in our 27 counties and includes an online shopping portal. Our plan is for our mobile outreach to deliver food and emergency services to parishes across the dioceses.  Shoppers will merely visit our new website, pick out the groceries they and their family would most enjoy. It allows them the ability to meet their own taste preferences, cultural dishes, and better manage chronic medical conditions that respond to a particular diet. This gift is truly transformative to our agency and those we serve.

Know that your support of Catholic Charities truly means so much. Between Gala, two new food pantries, and the services we provide each day, we could not do it without you.

While there has been so much change and excitement, there is still more work to be done!   We are seeking capital support in the form of a building, shelving, box trucks, vans & forklifts.  The agency continues to search for a permanent home to serve the southern portion of our diocese from the Kansas City area and a location in our northern counties.   If you have access to or knowledge of any of these items, please let us know.
