Catholic Charities of Kansas City- St. Joseph Receives Grant Award from Disabled Veterans National Foundation
This grant prevents homelessness in our region
KANSAS CITY, MO, OCTOBER 16, 2023 (Press Release) – Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph (CCKCSJ) is honored to announce it has received a grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) for $15,000, which will be directed to disabled veterans and will assist those in need with emergency assistance like rental and utility assistance.
CEO of Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph Karen Noel said, “This support is fundamental to aiding our organization to care for the men and women who protected our country and are now in need.”
For reference on how this grant is transformative, 92% of veteran households who participated in the housing program were successfully housed by the end of the program. That is a 2% increase from the last fiscal year. Through CCKCSJ and this grant from DVNF, we are able to help prevent veteran homelessness.
Joseph VanFonda (USMC Sgt.Maj. Ret.), CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation said, “At times when critical, financial help is needed to prevent the loss of a home or utilities, Catholic Charities can step in and provide that support. By assisting veterans through rental and utilities aid, Catholic Charities provides exemplary service to veterans. DVNF is proud to support the work this organization is doing to prevent homelessness in the Kansas City veteran population.”
About the Disabled Veteran’s National Foundation:
Disabled Veteran’s National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.
DVNF achieves this mission by:
- Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF.
- Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
- Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.
- Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community and educating the public accordingly.
Catholic Charities is humbled to further assist veterans in its 27-county service area and deepen its impact in helping veterans achieve sustainability.
