You are most likely one of the thousands of children that was adopted through Catholic Charities between 1879 and today and one of the 1.5 million U.S. children who are adopted.
Here is some basic information to help support you!
Sending Letters to Your Birthparents
Regardless if you have been in contact with your birthparents recently or not at all, you have the ability to write them a letter. Typed letters and PDFs can be emailed to adoptions@ccharities.com.
Handwritten letters can be mailed to:
Catholic Charities
Attn: Adoption Dept,
4001 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Suite 250,
Kansas City, MO 64130.
Letters should remain non-identifying. Please do not include full names, the names or addresses of places (including businesses, colleges, cities, etc), or any personally identifying information as it will be redacted.
All letters need to include a separate page with the following information:
- Adoptee’s full name, including maiden names
- Date of birth, including year
- Adoptive parents’ first and last names
- Birthparents’ names, if known
This will aid the adoption staff in correctly locating your birthparent’s file.
